The Fang are hunters. Among the Fang, each family
owns a Byéri or a reliquary box where the forbears ' bones are kept. These box were preserved by the Esa ( the oldest man of the family); Fang sculptures are linked to Byéri worship. They features bent-legged sitting men, with an elongated torso, clasped hands holding a cup, and a stylized-features
head. surmounting the shrine, these statuettes used to be taken round the village to honor the dead.
According to ritual, it was taken apart from its support, then for convenience settled on a plate or a straw .headdress. Copper, much seen on this type of statuettes, gives a brilliant look which is supposed to repel foes.
