Punu mask    (N°545 )

his magnificient mask has been collected in Gabon. In Gabon, in Ngounie basin, the Mukuyi or Okuyi commermorates the dead . On huge stilts, a masked dancer, whose body is concealed by a cloth - raffia in the past - performs acrobatics while waving fly swatters in each hand. Mukuyi masks are supposed to embody forbears , sometimes female. The enigmatic face of the mask is slightly triangular. Under the closed almond-drawn eyes, the high cheekbones become rounder. crackcrackcrackcrackcrackcrackcrackcrackcrackcrack
